Destinations Travel Show

Up bright and early for the day ahead. First stop was for breakfast at South Kensington, we found this great little Italian run cafe called Floris by mistake on a previous trip to London, so we decided to give it another go. They have really nicely cooked food and is reasonably priced and only one stop away (South Kensington tube station) from Earls Court. Then it was off to the Destinations Travel show. Once inside their were an amazing  range of travel companies from every location you could think of around the globe, they ranged from companies advertising really expensive and exclusive 5 star resorts to trekking across the desert in what only can be described as a very old lorry converted into a bus where the accommodation on the overnight stops are communal tents, which I would have loved to do maybe 30 years ago, but now at my age I like a little more luxury but it looked good all the same. It was really nice to see stalls advertising places such as Mongolia, Korea, Vietnam, Samoa, along with all the more popular tourist destinations. So a good time was had by all, so we came away with lots of ideas for our next trip, which we think may be Thailand & Vietnam, really early planning stage at moment though so watch this space.

After the show we decided to go to Portobello road market, now having been born and bred in London and having travelled around the capital a great deal I somehow missed going to Portobello market, what an amazing place, lots of really good shops and stalls selling antiques, paintings, records in fact everything you could think off, a real must place to visit if you are coming to London.

After the market it was time to find somewhere to have dinner, and as there was maintenance work being carried out on various underground train lines, we decided to take the bus back toward our hotel, it made a nice change to travel on the bus instead of the tube as you see so much more. We ended up by Tower hill in a nice pub called the Liberty Bounds which is owned by the JD Wetherspoons group where we had a very nice meal. Then it was back to the hotel for a goods nights rest.
